Green never looked so haute this season on the runway at the
second annual Green Initiative Humanitarian Fashion Show, held
on March 12th, 2008, at Smashbox Studios in Culver City,
California during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Mikey Koffman, owner of The Gallery Los Angeles, created and
produced this extraordinary fashion event. The purpose of this
humanitarian showcase was to introduce buyers and consumers
to eco-friendly, sustainable brands that are not only changing the
world of fashion, but also positively impacting the environment.
The International Standards Organization (ISO) have taken
measures to define the term eco-fashions and is in the process of
creating standards to identify and label what type of garments
can truly call themselves environmentally friendly. Eco-fashions
according to the ISO is “identifying the general environmental
performance of a product within a product group based on its
whole life-cycle in order to contribute to improvements in key
environmental measures and to support sustainable consumption
patterns.”
The show featured six collections from some of the top
emerging eco-fashion designers on the market. The line-up
included M the Movement, Lady Muse, Andira Rain Tees
Collection, Lilikoi Clothing, Vintage China, and Rene' Geneva
Design.
The show brilliantly infused design and entertainment, which
kept the energy of the packed studio crowd at an absolute high,
as they witnessed not only models, but break dancers, bong
players, a violinist, ballet dancers, Chinese scarf dancers,
Hawaiian hula dancers, and darling child models be sent down
the runway.
A total of 23 runway shows were held at Smashbox Studios, and
this presentation of designers was by far one of the most
standout events.
