FASHION Q&A: Looking back on your career as a designer, what was your
greatest moment thus far? To what trends or fashion boundaries do you look
forward in the coming years?
FARAH ANGSANA
: The moment I was accepted to show my collection in Paris during
fashion week, as well as when my first major department store, Harrods (London),
confirmed my orders. Next, I will be looking forward to launching my Bridal collection
as well as having my own stores.

FQA: Designing a label typically involves many people and is a collaborative effort.
Who are your behind-the-scenes stars?
FARAH
: I have to give credit to my seamstresses who know the importance of true
couture, as well as to my press office and stylists who take my designs off the
runway and help bring them to the everyday women.

FQA: Personal style is a constant evolution, e.g. one that can change with the
movement of pop culture, music and media. Have any of the above influenced
your design process, and if so how?
FARAH
: When I was a teenager, I used to flip through fashion magazines; designers
like Valentino, Emmanuel Ungaro, Thierry Mugler and Azzedine Alaia caught my
attention. But the one person who most inspired me to be a fashion designer is the
Great Valentino. His elegance, exquisite embroideries and beading to details,
colors, styles such as long and lean dresses and his fine hand-made draperies.
After studying fashion in London, I came to understand the draping technique of
Madame Grés. From there, I learned and developed my own personal style.

FQA: What essential item do you have in your closet for Spring/Summer?
FARAH:
Several pairs of Roger Vivier shoes; from platforms with rose’s torn heels to
his sandals, it all goes perfectly with my new resort collection.

FQA: What defines fabulous fashion for the Farah Angsana
woman?
FARAH:
She has to be confident, intelligent, tough yet feminine
and elegant, self assurant enough to get attention without fear of
embracing her sensuality. She has great composure and is well
mannered. I hate when women look scruffy, wet and
weighed-down hair.

FQA: You showed your F/W 09 collection at Mercedes Benz
Fashion Week Los Angeles. What pieces from your Fall
collection do you think women will want at the top of their Fall
wish list?
FARAH:
1. The Black lace with 4 layers of Red silk chiffon flowing
dress. 2. Long pleated emerald green silk chiffon Changeant
dress. 3. Below knee red silk chiffon in draped and ruffles dress.
4. A draped cut back in silk satin chiffon with beaded belt.

FQA: If you could pick any destination in the world for a
summer holiday, where would you go? What key attributes do
you look for in a destination when planning your own getaway?
FARAH:
Bali, Sardinia (Italy) and at the yacht in the South of
France to embark a journey in the middle of a deep blue
Mediterranean sea with my friends and my husband. Peace,
quiet, relax and enjoying the nature during the day.

FQA: What was or will be your biggest splurge for the
summer season?
FARAH:
My biggest splurge this summer season will be having
my new Atelier - workshop in Zurich (Switzerland). To have more
employees and launching my Bridal and Resort collection.
FQA: Bikini or one piece swimsuit?
FARAH:
Usually bikini. Since this past year, I gained weight,
so it might be appropriate to have 1 piece swimsuit at my
side.

FQA: When traveling, what are your must-have carry-on
items?
FARAH:
My huge cashmere shawls, I-touch, cell phone,
laptop and my Hermes purse.

FQA: What is your signature fragrance and why?
FARAH:
The Scent of Peace by Bond no. 9 and Rose
Ikebana by Hermes. It calms me and makes me feel good.
Maybe one day, I will have my own line of perfume. Who
knows?

FQA: What is your home design style, and what does your
favorite room look like?
FARAH:
It is a mix between East and West, modern with an
ethnic touch. My favorite room is my kitchen since I love
cooking; it is bright, white, spacious and clean. Of course
lots of foods in there.

FQA: Any other fun facts you can give our readers about
either yourself or your line?
FARAH:
Every since I was a little, I knew that I wanted to be
in fashion. I have lived around the world, from being raised
in Singapore and Los Angeles, studying in London to
currently residing in Zurich.  I gain inspiration from all that is
around me giving my collections a combination between
fantasy and reality that make women truly look beautiful.
fragrance. Angsana is used to breaking boundaries, being the first and only
Indonesian born designer to have ever presented a couture collection in Paris.
When asked what personal attributes are accredited to sustaining a high-end
designer line Angsana gushed, she mentions "dedication, passion, courage,
tenacity, strength, knowledge and constant traveling for inspiration." Fashion Q&A
was able to get a little chat time with the Zurich-based jet-setter to dish about Italy,
bikini's and the fabulous Farah woman.
S/S 2010
Since the launch of her Collection in
Paris in 2000, Farah Angsana has
become an international inspiration of
design. Her  fanciful and whimsical
approach to couture is changing the
world of fashion, as evident in her rapid
and successful expansion into
menswear, ready-to-wear and couture.
It will not be long until you see her
creativity extend into bridal and
me giving my collections a combination
between fantasy and reality that make
