Carlos Campos has often admitted to being a sucker for romance, so it’s hardly surprising that for his Fall/Winter 2011 collection he was inspired by love poetry, in particular that of  Chilean
poet
Pablo Neruda.

Of course, Campos likes to give every design he touches a Rock & Roll twist, so while this collection had a lovesick softness to it, it was also infused with a militaristic toughness too. Color-
wise, the collection didn’t stray from the hues traditionally associated with fall-burnished russets, inky sea greens and sun worn blues. Campos’ suits were as slick as ever - turned up
trousers gave the pieces a more relaxed feel and the beige check suit injected a little wit into the collection. Slim fit tailoring prevailed which worked well with Campos’ elegantly European
aesthetic. The designer’s color blocking was grainily nostalgic. A russet knit teamed with sea green blazer and chocolate trouser was striking without being eye searlingly bright.

Campos’ outerwear followed a military trend. His long overcoats in navy, moss green and grey were timeless and dramatic, while the leather bomber jackets, in toffee and sea green, were
buttery soft but still masculine. There was a hefty dose of nostalgia woven into the fabric of most of Campos’ looks. They belonged to the realm of old photographs but there was also a
strong thread of modernity which ran through the collection. It was the accessories that did it - tan leather desert books, bow ties, braces, slender belts and soft scarves brought youth and
modernity to an otherwise very muted, languid collection.
