Miucca Prada's Fall 2011 Miu Miu Collection
Breaths New Life Into the Style from
Post WWII Paris & a Tinge of the 80s
No era is ever out of style, if you do it right. That seems to be Miucca Prada's sartorial maxim for the season. In Milan, Prada was laden in 20s flapper meets 60s British Mod. For her other
namesake line,
Miu Miu was post WWII Paris and a tinge of the 80s. These mixes go a bit further than that. Back in Milan - Prada looked curiously like Miu Miu. It was the first thought to pop
up after seeing the entire collection. The innocence and girlishness that's so inherent in the Miu Miu DNA was swapped over to her big sister. Her big sister in return, bequeathed the
youngin' with a serious rush of lady-like elegance.

Prada didn't just dig in her almanac for inspiration, but in her own Miu Miu archives as well. That whimsical bird print she used in her Spring 2010 pantsuits swooped in onto the
evening-wear here in burnished, rust colored sequins. Upside down triangle lines were the dominant silhouette, with skirts hitting just below the knee. The woolen vanity case coats with
large buttons, on the other hand, came sans stockings and thigh-level. Pants weren't the high focus here, but they came with a bit of volume, with cinched ribbing at the hem for that
necessary femme touch.

What's more totemic in Parisian elegance than a good mink? The mink came ringed around arm-holes, on the collars of dresses, as stoles naturally, as well as wrapped around waists of
dresses for that triangular effect. In a season jam-packed with shiny waist-accentuating peplums, Prada once again shows who's boss with the best interpretation of them all - the mink
peplum. And if anyone can make a good case for a little extra baggage, it is Miucca Prada, who with this collection demands that you leave that teeny tiny and impractical clutch behind, and
go with her velvety or furry oversized, rigid-handled bag. Come fall, those clutches are going to go, and fast and we won't be surprised if this Miu Miu offering ends up being one of Prada's
most profitable yet.
