What Goes Around Comes Around has been one of lower Manhattan's vintage treasures for years. It's also been an editorial darling to almost any
magazine that's put a decent outfit together. So what did this particularly special brand whip up for its first MBFW outing? Well, judging from the ambience -
(lounge chairs, divans, champagne, luxe lighting - all complements of the Soho Grand Hotel) - one would hope that the goods matched the packaging.
What ensued was an overwrought smorgasbord of every trend that has started to wear out its welcome. Granted, that 70s trend hasn't gone away, and is
still finding new, fresh expressions, but not here. So many looks seemed like the troubled doppelgängers of Tracy Reese's foxy Spring 2011 ladies.
Without question, most of the blame has to go to the styling. The looks were shockingly haphazard, some conceits - like making a long ascot out of a
men's thin scarf - was amateur. Even a pair of patchworked jeans looked sloppy. Jeans! That's where WGACA dominates - so what gives?
One prescient note were the men's pants. Sweats as outerwear cannot be denied for Fall 2011 and WGACA was keen enough to pick up on that trend
early on. The show also had the great fortune of ending on a supreme note, with a gorgeous brown georgette draped dress that went beautifully with its
colorful green hat. It was the one look that didn't strive for contrivance and one could only wonder what this collection would've been like had that dress
been the origin of it all.
