For Fall 2011, Malaysian-born designer Zang Toi sent down the runway 33 looks that ranged from daywear to eveningwear. Toi selected only the highest quality fabrics and textures to
create a collection which, for the first time, does not have a unifying theme. Usually a fan of color, Toi toned down his designs for fall to create a classic collection that was "glamorous, but
not matronly."
With dim lights and blaring operatic sounds, the show kicked-off with several striking tailored trench coats in camel and seamlessly moved into gowns packed with an incredible
wow-factor. We loved the emerald green and black show stoppers that were gala glam, and details such as a neckline covered with jewels really caught our attention. The designer took on
a new color palate for the brand this season of camels, charcoals, black and nude with splashes of brilliant emerald. Toi's fabrications were as lavish as ever and included Loro Piana baby
camel hair, silk combos, Loro Piana cashmere, a silk blend for suitings, double face wool herringbone, with statements of Saga Royal fox and mink and fine details of hand stitched
beading, to create the perfect investment pieces for the Zang Toi collector.
"This is the first time I used really muted colors like nude, camel, and charcoal," said Toi, who celebrated 20 years in fashion in 2009. "Most designers love nude and black, but I said I had
to do it my own way, so I injected a burst of emerald green into the collection to light up the runway." The last piece to grace the runway was modeled by Jill Zarin, from the
'Real Housewives of New York City".
